Margreet Houtman

Margreet Houtman started her clarinet studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Sjef Douwes. In 2008 she completed her bachelor’s degree with excellent result after which she was accepted to the master’s degree at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. There she studied with Harmen de Boer and Arno Piters. In June 2011 she graduated with distinction.
In this period she also studied with the two principal clarinetists from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, George Pieterson and Andreas Sundén

After that Margreet was accepted to study with one of the most sought-after teachers at the moment: Yehuda Gilad, at the University of Southern
California in Los Angeles. After she finished she moved back to Europe and studied with Hermann Stéfansson, principal clarinettist of the Royal
Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. She also took lessons with the world-renowned Martin Fröst who invited her to participate in one of his recordings.

Margreet is an active chamber musician as well as a soloist and orchestral musician, performing across the U.S. and Europe. In the Netherlands she regularly performed with all major orchestras including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
Currently based in Stockholm, she plays with a number of orchestras and ensembles amongst which the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the
Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Swedish Opera.

As a soloist Margreet has performed many of the well-known clarinet concertos such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Carl Nielsen, Jean Françaix, Carl Maria von Weber, Gioachino Antonio Rossini amongst others.
