Marja Inkinen

Marja Inkinen Engström violin, born in Helsinki,Finland, is the principal violin 2 in the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra since 1998. She teaches violin, orchestra playing and chamber music since 2002 at the Academy of Music and Drama, University of Gothenburg. Before moving to Sweden in 1998 she was a member of AVANTI!-chamber orchestra and Tapiola Sinfonietta in Finland. Marja Inkinen Engström has studied violin playing at Sibelius-Academy with prof. Tuomas Haapanen and graduated there with Masters degree. She also holds a solo diploma and violin pedagogue diploma from Utrechts Conservatorium, Holland, where she studied with prof. Viktor Liberman and prof. Keiko Wataya for 6 years. She has also studied privately with prof. Sandor Végh in Salzburg, Lenk and Prussia Cove, with prof. Chaim Taub in Tel Aviv and prof. Mi-kyung Lee in Berlin. As a principal in Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra Marja has had a great pleasure to perform several times as a soloist with GSO and as a chamber musician with international artists including among others Lynn Harrell, Christian Zacharias, Brett Dean and Daniel Müller-Schott.She has also played as a soloist in Finland, Italy, Holland, Belgium and Greece. Marja plays on a Francesco Ruggieri violin from 1668 which is kindly on loan from Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.
